Colorado Sports Hall of Fame
In early 2014, Mike Kuhn became a member of the Board of Directors for Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, a 503(c) established to honor Colorado athletes and other involved in Colorado sports. Colorado Sports Hall of Fame also gives back to the youth and disabled sports communities.
Debbie's Big Day Annual Golf Tournament
In June of 2013, Team Kuhn/Bippus (from Northwestern Mutual) hosted Debbie's Big Day Inaugural Golf Tournament to raise money for developmentally disabled adults.
This event is near and dear to our hearts as Mike Kuhn's sister, Debbie, is 52 years old with the mental capacity of a 4-year old. She likes kitty cats, puzzles, cookies and other simple pleasures. She resides at Bjorklund House and goes to “work-shop” 5 days a week engaging in light duty activities. She and other residents help with meal prep and home tidying tasks. Like any of us, she looks forward to activities that break up the monotony of the day. So in that spirit, Debbie is lucky to have a mother like hers and Mike's who brings her home most weekends and takes her on trips. Not all of the residents are that fortunate.
Organizations that care for residents are supported by public and private funding and volunteers. While their living needs are provided for, budgets are limited and tight.
Since inception we have raised $100,000 to benefit The Smith Agency and Bjorklund House (both 503(c) organizations), to help fund their activities budget, which will give the residents fun things to look forward to, like a “Big Day” - a trip to the zoo, a museum, a ballgame or just out for ice cream as a group.
Thank you to all who donated and joined us for this annual fun event that surely changed lives. This years event will be held on Monday, June 17th at Inverness Golf Club in Englewood, CO. To learn more please visit www.debbiesbigday.weebly.com.
